Emerging Technologies: The new quantum revolution era

ABSTRACT: The dawn of a new industrial revolution, based on quantum information processing, promises to revolutionize entire sectors of our society from pharmacology to meteorology. Just a few years ago it sounded like science fiction, yet quantum information is becoming a reality. How do quantum computers work and what will their impact on our lives be?

BIO: He obtained his Master and PhD degrees in Physics at the University of Catania. He became associate professor of Condensed Matter physics first at the University of Catania. In 2005 he became professor at SISSA - Trieste and then moved to the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. He is currently Head of the Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics Section at ICTP - Trieste and Professor (on leave) at Università Federico II - Naples. His main research interests are in superconductivity, quantum transport, quantum many-body systems and quantum information.
