In uno scenario, in cui si tenta di recuperare il rapporto tra città e abitanti, di individuare un riequilibrio dell’impronta ecologica, di ridefinire la memoria dei luoghi, un ruolo fondamentale può essere svolto appunto dal verde storico. Questi spazi, anche se non sempre è adeguatamente sottolineato, sono serbatoi preziosi di biodiversità vegetale. Essi possono fungere come strategia preziosa di conservazione ex situ di specie e genotipi, spesso a rischio di scomparsa. L’attività di ricerca, intrapresa da tempo, ha riguardato l’analisi delle florule e degli schemi compositivi di numerosi impianti a verde di interesse storico presenti nella Sicilia orientale. Sono stati anche analizzati il quartiere di Cibali e la Villa San Saverio, sede della Scuola Superiore. In quest’ambito, la “pillola” proposta vuole fornire informazioni sull’intorno ambientale dell’attuale residenza degli studenti della Scuola Superiore.&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>Learning brain dynamics via integral equations</title>

However, the brain presents long-range spatiotemporal relations that produce non-local complex dynamics. While the use of non-local equations to model the brain has a long history in computational approaches, deep learning models based on such equations have not appeared until very recently. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class=&quot;rtejustify&quot;&gt;In this “Pillola di Ricerca” I will present a deep learning model based on integral equations, called Neural Integral Equation, and discuss its applications to the study of the brain.  <title>Il diritto all&#039;acqua e il suo futuro in Cile</title>

Grazie alla perseveranza di movimenti sociali e giuristi impegnati, il Cile è stato vicino a diventare il primo Stato al mondo ad adottare una &quot;Costituzione climatica&quot;. Questo movimento ispiratore è nato di fronte alla carenza d&#039;acqua: si stima che più di tre quarti del territorio cileno sia in uno stato di eccezionale siccità. Ho avuto la fortuna di accompagnare membri dell&#039;assemblea costituente nella formalizzazione delle loro richieste. Nonostante il rifiuto del testo tramite referendum, i suoi fondamenti rimangono rilevanti di fronte alle sfide mondiali di oggi e di domani.&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>Curve ellittiche: l’aritmetica incontra la geometria</title>

Le curve ellittiche sono uno degli strumenti centrali di questa direzione di ricerca: si tratta di oggetti geometrici (curve) con ricche proprietà algebriche (struttura di gruppo) che ormai da tempo vengono utilizzati con grande successo per studiare problemi aritmetici. In questa pillola vorrei presentare una questione aritmetica dall’aria ingannevolmente semplice e mostrare come la sua soluzione – essenzialmente grafica! - conduca naturalmente a parlare di curve ellittiche e della loro struttura di gruppo. Discuterò inoltre come spesso abbia particolare rilevanza la comprensione dei punti di ordine finito all’interno della struttura di gruppo: si tratta di questioni (in buona parte risolte) che, fra le molte applicazioni, hanno giocato un ruolo fondamentale anche nella dimostrazione dell’Ultimo Teorema di Fermat. Il Carburo di Silicio (SiC) ha permesso di aumentare la densità di corrente e ha reso possibile l’utilizzo del MOSFET in SIC in automotive per la trazione e la carica dell’auto  elettrica di ultima generazione. Nella “pillola” percorreremo brevemente la storia del SiC a Catania (Università, CNR e ST) discuteremo le motivazioni e gli sviluppi nell’utilizzo del SiC principalmente in ambito automotive ma anche in ambito industriale.&lt;/div&gt;

Questo fenomeno, noto come Deepfakes, rende necessario l’individuazione di metodologie e algoritmi per la relativa Detection al fine di contrastarne l’uso illecito (ad esempio nell’industria della pornografia). Come dimostrato in alcuni dei nostri recenti studi scientifici, i contenuti multimediali sintetici (deepfake) contengono una fingerprint, spesso unica, impressa dal modello generativo che può essere estratta in maniera tale da fornire soluzioni al problema di classificazione “Real Vs Deepfake”, riuscendo anche a definire l’architettura generativa (GAN) utilizzata per la fase di creazione. They are able to trap, manipulate and investigate a wide range of nanoscopic particles in different media, such as liquids, air, and vacuum. After an introduction to optical forces, we will give an overview of results on optical trapping, optical binding, and characterization of particles at the nanoscale. Thus, we will describe how optical tweezers can be used to trap and characterize extraterrestrial particulate matter. Our results open perspectives for non-destructive, non-contact and non-contaminating investigation of extraterrestrial particles, aiming for space tweezers applications. This will be shown with specific focus on the European system of human rights protection. Human rights-based parameters help to limit, assess and justify state action. More generally, the relevance of human rights, as evidenced in the context of the pandemic, could contribute in a productive way to the development of a human rights culture at the national level.
